Hey,
I was with some friends yesterday and one of them was uploading a picture to Facebook, but as they were typing in the description another friend jogged them so that instead of "last" they typed in "lap". Afterwards we decided that this was a new social network acronym a bit like LOL but instead it meant, "Laugh At People".
So I was thinking (or musing as this blog suggests) there must be loads of words created by people misspelling words. As a dyslexic I am a proficient misspeller (that's why I use Google Chrome, it has a spell-checker ;)), unfortunately though I have never completely changed the English language from my misspelling, but I am sure somebody has.
I know, for instance that before everyone knew how to read and write many surnames changed almost every generation. Even William Shakespeare one of the greatest writers ever, spelt his name over 80 different ways ranging form “Shappere” to “Shaxberd. He also invented many words that we use everyday now such as "bedroom". I guess when millions of school children throughout 3 centuries study your work, your words tend to stick better than most.
In conclusion the more people you expose you misspellings to then the more likely you are to change the spelling of or invent an new word. Maybe one day if this blog gets big enough I will add new words to the dictionary.
Untill nex tine,
Dan :)
Ha! I was there when that happened!! :)
