Last week I was thinking about the past (see below). So when I was having a musing sesh, I thought this week I should muse about the future. I am studying for my GCSE’s at the moment so one of the big thoughts for me right now is a profession. Now I’m not sure about what I want to do when I leave School/ Collage, probably something to do with science, like engineering or maybe even research. Then I thought, “What if it all goes to pot?” I mean what if I fail all my GCSE’s and end up at 16 unemployed and with no qualifications. What would I do?
There are two stereotypical jobs for this sort of person. They either work in McDonalds or become a binman. So which would I prefer? Well lets start with pay, a McDonalds worker gets paid between £4.25 to £5.55 a hour depending on their age (under 22 year olds get less). Binmen or Refuge Collectors as they are officially called, get paid between £5-£8 a hour and up to £10 if you work late or early. So bin men get paid a lot more than McDonalds workers, but I suppose being a binman is a lot harder and more physically demanding than working in McDonalds, where all you need to do is wash floors, fry chips and serve people (serving people seems to be the worst part of it, people generally are just irritating).
Another thing is working at McDonalds all you are doing is making money for a great commercial machine and making people fat. Where is the job satisfaction in that? A refuge collector has a important role to play within society, without binmen we would be neck deep in rubbish and everywhere would be infested with rats and disease. They help society in a crucial way where as all McDonalds workers do is give people heart disease!
I would always choose to be a binman over working at McDonalds. What do you think? Please comment below, any ideas are welcome. Also could you please have a go at answering the question on my “Question” page (find it on the bar at the top of this post) it would really help one of the post I’m planning.
Well now I’m off to study hard,
Thanks for reading,
Dan
