Frames without Doors

Hey,

This Musing is coming to to you from Thursday as I am at a camp thing at the weekend with my mates from church! Hopefully you’ll get this though as it is on a timer thingy…

Well anyway one of my followers, I’m not naming names (her name begins with L ;p), told me on Wednesday that she had developed a talent of walking into door frames… She told me that she wished that all door frames just disappeared, I said that would mean no doors so no privacy.  Then she decided that  no privacy was better than doorframes.

Apart from being an advert for open-plan living, she started me musing; does something like a door frame have a function without a door and can a door exist without a frame?  What things are reliant on something else for a purpose?

A wheel for example has very little purpose if nothing is rolling on it. A picture frame can be very ornate and a piece of artwork in its self but if it doesn’t have a picture in it then it looks incomplete. Can you have a shelf without a wall?

I supposes this can be applied to most things, what’s the point in a lamp without a bulb, a clock without hands, a week without Thursday? Almost everything relies on something else for identity, and I believe this can even be applied to peoples lives. What give you identity, is it your clothes, or your friends or even how much money you have? For me there is one thing I rely upon for identity and purpose above all those things- and that is God.

What gives you identity? What do you rely upon? Please comment your answers below or e-mail me at dan.randommunings@gmail.com. Could you also maybe take a moment to answer the question on my “Question” page.

Thanks for reading,
Hope this has made you think,
